The Aberdeen Matawan Youth Athletic Association (AMYAA) was founded in 1973 with the intention of providing girls in our communities with athletic opportunities to learn, play, and grow from sport.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Valuing Good Sportsmanship

AMYAA is devoted to fair play and sportsmanship. Our number one priority is that players who choose to play in our league enjoy their experience and create lasting, positive memories. We expect that all participants in our league - including Coaches, Players, Parents and Officials - have the same mindset and contribute to building the exceptional experience for all those involved in the game.

OUR PROGRAMS

SOFTBALL

Our Softball Program allows players (ages 4-14) of all abilities to compete in recreation or travel leagues.  We are committed to creating a positive softball experience while also teaching the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork and having fun.

Our Recreation Program hosts players of all athletic abilities. Our divisions include:

  • T-Ball: This program is for girls aged 4 and 5 and will introduce basic skills and mechanics for throwing, catching, fielding and hitting.  Players must be 4 by January 1, 2020 to be eligible.  The program will run on Saturday mornings from 9am -12noon. for 8 weeks. Our season begins at the end of April and will go until the beginning of June.
  • Rookie: This is an instructional program for girls aged 6 through 8 that focuses on the introduction of softball fundamentals. Games last about an hour and every player will bat and get an opportunity to play the field. This is a coach-pitch division with some modified rules to help players gain confidence while gaining a better understanding of the flow of the game.
  • Minors: This program is for girls aged 9-11 and focuses on skills development while having an exciting and positive experience. Players will pitch on their own for the first time for the whole game and be introduced to a higher level of play with a more competitive environment. Games run six inning or two hours using an 11" ball and pitch from 35 feet. Players at this level will play teams in the surrounding area with umpires officiating games. In this division, there is opportunity to try out for the 10u All Star team.
  • Majors: This is a competitive program for girls aged 11-14 in 6th through 8th grade. This is a more advanced division but emphasis is still on having fun, refining skills and healthy competition. Pitchers will move back to 40 feet and will use a 12 inch ball. Players at this level will play teams in the surrounding area. In this division, there is an opportunity to try out for the 12u All Star team.

Aberdeen Matawan Huskies Travel Program

If your daughter expresses an interest in taking her game to the next level, we offer an opportunity to join the Huskies. Our Huskies Travel Program is the travel division of the AMYAA Softball League and welcomes girls to attend and compete for a spot on our competitive travel teams. We are dedicated to creating and maintaining a positive softball experience for the girls and their families, emphasizing camaraderie, sportsmanship, and experienced coaching to help improve individual skills.

The Huskies compete in the fall, spring and summer in leagues and tournaments and then train during the winter.

BASKETBALL

AMYAA's girls basketball program was first established in winter 2017 after several families expressed a desire to give their daughters an opportunity to play competitive basketball with their friends and schoolmates. Our recreational league provides an environment where girls of all skill levels and abilities feel comfortable and included.

We started with only two age divisions and have expanded to include four divisions in just three short years.

In 2019, an official AMYAA Basketball Board was established, and travel teams formed to play exhibition games against teams from other leagues.

We rely on parental volunteers to coach and mange teams and game clocks, and encourage all parents to get involved in helping us grow this budding program.

WORKBOND REQUIREMENTS

Aberdeen Matawan Girls Softball ask all parents who sign their daughters up for softball season to pay a WORKBOND FEE. This fee is kept to ensure parents will volunteer to assist their daughter's team & coach when required.Workbonds will be collected prior to the season opener when uniforms are handed out.  If a workbond check is not provided, your daughter will not be given a uniform.

T-Ball, Clinic, and Minor League families will be have different options to help the league before and during the season.  These duties are typically sorting uniforms prior to the season, pre-season cleanup, field maintenance, or helping out at the league picnic. Only one work commitment is required per child.

Major League parents will be asked to fulfill at least two work assignments per child at our Oak Shades snack stand during the season.

Work Bond checks will be cashed if one or more of your work assignments are missed. Work Bond checks will be shredded if all work assignments are fulfilled.

The 2020 season workbond fee is $150.
